RE: Using reflectix for winter insulation on windows

I haven't measured my windows in my RT yet (why not?) but did you get the short width or the medium width roll of this stuff? (I hope this makes sense).
I saw three width size rolls at Home Depot last week but did not buy it quite yet. I have plenty of time and I like to think about it a bit. The double stick tape sounds great to me too. Thanks for bringing this up. We learn so much from the vets in this group. :B

RE: Google: 1800-GOOG-411 - Good Info

That is a neat thing. It is amazing how technology is changing how we travel. I don't use Garmin GPS anymore. Now we don't need a large laptop or navigator screen with fancy hookups/stands in the cab of our "B's" because now we can use our phone devices that double as excellent navigational purposes. Like other things in a B, keep things on a smaller scale.
The iPhone has some "apps" that do the same thing including what Ron is describing. You speak into the phone and it will find a location on the Google map feature on the iPhone and it will show you the location on the Google map. Here it is.
But, for me, I like an app called "Around Me" that will show just about any venue you want within a few miles quickly.
Here is a description page.
There are other apps like this but this one is free and IMO it works just as well if not better.

RE: And the ability to be flexible, is a good thing?

For the awning, it depends on where you are on a given day.
We have used ours more often than you would think.
If it is a hot sunny day, I crank it out to provide a bit of shade. It makes huge difference. And it does act as a rain shield at times. I never leave it unattended and it only takes a minute to close it or open it. I think it is a worthwhile item to have on your rig.

RE: Trip Cost

This is a great thread.
We are planning a trip across the country in the future and we are planning to follow what my DW and I call a "3/1/2/1" weekly routine. Of course, depending where we are in the country, this may change a bit but this is the plan.
The plan is a 3 nights boondocking, followed by a 1 campground night, followed by a 2 nights boondocking followed by a 1 night "5 star hotel." (The 5 star hotel was the clincher in convincing my DW that we needed to boondock on this trip.) :B We will look for the closest classiest hotel in that area & have a great dinner that evening at a fancy restaurant as part of our anniversary present to each other.
gmctoyman, did you use a debit card or credit card during the trip and have the home bills paid automatically by auto pay at your bank? We are working out those details.
I have an account dedicated solely for the trip and plan to use a debit card for most expenses to cut down on carrying cash.
Your information is helpful in our planning.
Thanks.

RE: And the ability to be flexible, is a good thing?

The aisle bath is what it is, and we'll just have to adapt to it. I expect that after a week or so, we'll be perfectly comfortable with it as we are both very motivated to make it work. Excellent find and congratulations!
We can tell you that the aisle shower works great for us. We have found it to be just fine. IMO, it is a brilliant use of the van's space. We looked at a few other company designs (closed bathroom styles) and we felt quite cramped although we are not large in body sizes. My DW actually convince me to go with the RT because of the aisle shower/bath design and I am glad she did. We are quite pleased. I think you are going to love your B.
Here is a link to a thread regarding your type of shower arrangement.
I think you got you new B at the perfect time. :)

RE: Got my B

http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/congrats_an_.gif
That is a beauty! I think that may be the cleanest used RT I've seen.
I like the color matching of the towels, carpet and seats. We did a similar thing adding blue towels to add color vs. the brown/tan leather seats and carpet.
It truly looks like a "home away from home."
Nice find!

RE: iPhone Apps for On the Road

I have some apps that others have mentioned here but I like these for travel and RV related reasons:
1. WeatherBug 1.1 (the newer update that has a video as well) I like the weather radar feature.
2. "A Level" by PosiMotion that allows me to see if my rig is level for the reefer
3. AIM for instant messaging with those people that do not have an iPhone or iChat
4. myLite - kind of like a flashlight when you need some light in the dark
5. AirSharing - allows you to share files with your computer - just drag and drop the files from the computer to your iPhone - requires WiFi though - it shows PDFs, Excel, Word, images and many other formats as well.
6. Campfire - shows a video campfire - nice and warm and comfy
7. iSlots - when you want to play the slot machines with the DW is shopping
8. Google Earth - just like on your computer but better with tilting your iPhone for different angles, etc.
9. WiFiFoFum - Shows a radar screen of all WiFi hotspots in your area. This is my favorite. Although 3G is pretty fast nowadays, WiFi is the way to go if you can find the hotspots.
There is one app that will show exit areas of interest like restaurants, hospitals, etc. that someone showed me but I can't seem to locate it. It is an awesome app. If I do find it, I will post it here. It uses the GPS feature and Google in one.
I tend to keep the number of apps to a minimum to keep the clutter down but my DW has an iPhone and has six screens I think of apps. This is wild!

RE: More winterizing....

I am a great believer in the pink stuff. I think it is easier to use that than to blow out the lines and have to worry a little bit over the winter. I've got the winterizing routine down about 30-45 minutes now that I got the hang of it. It is a cost effective insurance for your system. It doesn't cost much for the pink stuff.
The last 2 years, we took advantage of the interior/exterior fresh water tanks system of the RT 190. I kept the inside of the RT at 55 and above all winter. And, put the pink stuff in all drains and the exterior fresh water tank in "winter mode." In one snow storm, the electricity shut off so I ran had to run the genny/furnace to keep in interior at 55 or above.
This year, I opted to do a full winterizing since I believe we did not use the water system enough to justify keeping the interior above freezing. When I retire next year, I plan to go back to the summer/winter setup of the RT 190 and enjoy the rig during the winter. :B

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

Oh, man. Those are nice pics from AZ. I can't wait until I can be a "snowbirder." (It won't be much longer...)
I had a strange thing happen to me today. I was driving by a popular beach in my town and a RT exactly like mine (a 2004/05 I think) 190 Versatile Chevy drove right by me. I turned around and followed the RT into a resort parking lot. The driver was stopping and going in several parking spaces to level the 'reefer" I think. What are the odds to find the same rig as your own from New Mexico (and be on Cape Cod, MA?) This is wild...
http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/walmartrt/newmexrt/nm1.jpg
http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/walmartrt/newmexrt/nm2.jpg
I blurred the license plate numbers for security reasons. The NM plate has "RV" like we have here in MA "Camper." Interesting.
http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/walmartrt/newmexrt/nm3.jpg
I was enroute to another destination in my work so I couldn't spend time talking to the owner. I may go back and try to locate him/her.

RE: Is now the best time buy a Class B?

I agree that this is the best time to buy a B (of any brand - thinking of LJZ here...)
I got mine a three years ago in October and I feel I did get a good deal. I imagine the deals are even better considering the current economy situation but the B's are in high demand now compared to some other types of RV's.

RE: NEW ROADTREK 190P

Wow! Awesome!
This is one of those rare cases when a company has made an improvement to a feature that I thought could not be enhanced. (The bath/shower/interior arrangement).
You are the lucky ones to reap the benefits.
Congratulations!

RE: 2004-2007 Roadtrek 190 Versatile

I am looking for feedback, on a 2004 to 2007 Roadtrek 190 Versatile Class B, from previous/current owners on good/negative experiences. I have two children ages 10 and 13 and looking to use it for extra vehicle, sporting events and weekend trips.
I agree with most posts here.
We love our RT Versatile. It is on top of our list of "excellent purchases" in our lives.
My thoughts:
1. IMO, the aisle shower setup is the best all around solution considering the size of the vehicle. It is roomy and comfortable. It's the best of both worlds. (Privacy and roominess). I think the setup was well thought out.
2.. The four seats up front and 2 more seatbelts in the rear sealed the deal for us. We often take another couple to day outings or weekend events.
3. For sleeping, it will be tight fit for 4 people but workable. You might want to look at class C models which are selling at great prices at this time. B's are in high demand now so prices are not dropping as low I think. When you think about it tho, the kids will be away to college, etc. in just a few years. For the long term, it might make more sense to purchase the B now to plan ahead for later years (the "retirement" years). It depends on how much you will use that B just for the kids and whole family.
4. The Chevy Chassis is excellent. It drives well (fun to drive), good MPG and easy to park.
5. The rear bed is fine for those who about 5'8 tall or less (as we are). You could make an "extension" so you can sleep "rear to front" rather than "side to side" as some RT Versatile owners have done. I saw such an arrangement on RV.net at one point but I cannot locate it now.
6. Best of all, the RT Versatile is that perfect "soccer mom" vehicle that you can take the kids anywhere. The parents can relax in the RT while the kids do their thing. Or the parents &/or family can sleep over night on location. (As a husband, I like to relax in the RT while the DW goes shopping.)
I would suggest going to a dealer that has a RT V on the lot. Bring the family into the RT and spend an hour "living" in it. Try to emulate sleeping in the beds and sitting in seats "traveling" mode.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

I'm on a roll here...
The other day I found this PW Dodge from NJ on main street in Plymouth, MA.
We drove our RT there and then spent the night at Scussett Beach. It was a beautiful night under the stars.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

Today, in town, I drove by a blue sprinter DIY from Alabama. It looks pretty stealthy to me and simplistic in nature. I didn't get to look inside but it has curtains, an AC on top and a neon light in the rear window.
http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/walmartrt/bluesprint/IMG_0351.jpg
I think I moved my camera on this shot to make blurred but you can barely see something yellow in the bottom like it was cut in - maybe a DIY generator setup?
http://www.allcapemusic.org/images/walmartrt/bluesprint/IMG_0352.jpg
Here's a crop of the same picture showing the curtains and the neon sign in the back. Maybe the "A" stands for Alabama U? Or maybe the Alabama band? ?????

The other day I was driving along and caught this MB Cruiser in the corner of my eye.
It is a nice looking unit. (From MA too.)

I hadn't seen one of these before. It seems to have quite a storage locker in the back. It that for the spare tire, etc?

RE: Any Way to Clean Fiamma Awning End Caps?

Someone posted here on the CVC forum a long time ago:
Use equal parts bleach and water (half a cup of bleach and half cup water mixed) and continuously wipe the end cap. You'd be amazed with the results. It just needs a little bit of elbow grease. :B

Uh, oh! sergeant76 is getting too good at this. I shouldn't have showed him how to post pictures on RV.net! Nice Job sergeant76 with the description of the encounter too.
Yesterday I was at the "Jazz Fest" at the harbor in Falmouth on Cape Cod with our RT while my DW watched the fine jazz musicians all day and evening. I had an enjoyable time in our RT just relaxing. The weather was spectacular.
A Coachmen Ford B from MA drove in and parked a few spaces down from me.
I didn't get to talk to the owner of the B.
